China Telecom (Shenzhen) and Huawei to build a "Gigaband City"

Via Huawei Corporate News

Jul 27, 2016

Shenzhen, China, July 15, 2016: China Telecom Corporation Limited Shenzhen Branch (hereinafter referred to as China Telecom (Shenzhen) and Huawei signed a cooperation framework agreement (CFA). This CFA aims at transforming Shenzhen into a benchmark city with Gigaband all-optical networks (hereinafter referred to as Gigaband City). In the future, the two parties will leverage their strengths in the respective service fields to transform Shenzhen into a benchmark Smart City.

As the pacesetter of the Chinese Economic Reform, Shenzhen has become a model of economic construction and industrial development. Shenzhen is the first city to propose the notion of "Gigaband City", and to deploy new-generation large-capacity NG OLTs and next-generation NG PONs on a large scale. Shenzhen will undoubtedly be a model of Gigaband network deployment. China Telecom (Shenzhen) will cooperate with Huawei on deployment of a comprehensive Gigaband network in the next five years. This network will provide 100% Gigabit coverage for communities and Gigabit access to 900,000homes. This cooperation plays a significant part in the course of transforming Shenzhen into a benchmark Smart City.

Regarding services, the two parties will underline 4K video technology to provide residential users with high-quality service experience. They will also introduce VR technology to promote new services, such as VR films and TV programs. Additionally, they will provide governments and enterprises with one-stop service solutions, such as AgilePOL, Gigaband hotels, and "optical+cloud" applications. Based on service development, they will also jointly define the standards for Gigaband City, providing guidance and reference in this field.

"China Telecom(Shenzhen) is dedicated to leapfrogging Shenzhen's broadband network capabilities, optimizing UBB user experience based on ultrafast fiber broadband construction, and deploying new services such as UBB video, VR and AR, Gigaband campus, and smart home. We hope that these efforts will foster digital economy innovation in Shenzhen and transform Shenzhen into an oasis for inventors," said Li Pengfei, General Manager of China Telecom (Shenzhen).

After signing the CFA, Zeng Xingyun, Vice President of Huawei's Fixed Network Product Line, stated, "The blossoming of 4K video, VR, smart home, IoT, and cloud services marks the arrival of the Gigaband era. Huawei's persistent innovation in the ICT field and industry-leading Gigaband all-optical solutions, such as large-capacity OLTs, NG PONs, and AgilePOL, will provide ample technical support to Gigaband City. Huawei will collaborate with China Telecom (Shenzhen) to transform Shenzhen into a Smart City."

The bandwidth acceleration of 100 Mbit/s to 1000 Mbit/s for global broadband networks is thriving, and China is leading the world in all-optical network deployment. Relying on the rapid economic development and modern infrastructure of Shenzhen, China Telecom (Shenzhen) and Huawei are the first to deploy Gigaband all-optical networks on a large scale. This furthers the development of Broadband China and provides a platform for national network development, "Internet Plus" development, and mass entrepreneurship and innovation. Additionally, this also assists Shenzhen in participating in the new round of global digital economy competition. By broadening and deepening the development of the high-technology industry, Shenzhen can exert more influence worldwide and transform into a benchmark Gigaband City.
