Via Bharti Airtel Mobile

Nov 23, 2016

  • Launches Wi-Fi to help commuters stay connected in one of Hyderabad’s busiest route
  • 115 luxury AC buses running on busy city routes will provide complimentary Wi-Fi on Airtel’s 4G network

Hyderabad, November 22, 2016: Bharti Airtel (“Airtel”), India’s largest telecommunications services provider and Telangana State Road Transport Corporation, today announced the launch of complimentary Wi-Fi services for commuters of Metro Luxury buses. In the run-up to make Hyderabad a "Global Smart City", the service has been launched in 115 buses operating between the bustling routes in the city as a pilot for 6 months. The service enables customers across operators to avail complimentary Wi-Fi and enjoy mobile internet services on the go for up to 20 minutes per day per user. Airtel is using 4G network to mobilize everything that's important to customers — their favorite content, apps, entertainment and social networks with the best combination of speed and coverage.

Commenting on the initiative, Venkatesh Vijayraghavan, Chief Executive Officer, Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, Bharti Airtel said , At Airtel we consistently innovate and make investments that help us move closer to our vision of developing our cities into Smart Global Cities. The launch of complimentary Wi-Fi services on-the-go is a real step forward in modernizing the lifestyle of our citizens, whether business, education or pleasure. This remarkable partnership with the Government of Telangana’s TSRTC is the largest in the country and will double the joy for travelers as it connects more Hyderabadi citizens than ever before.”

Beginning today, a fleet of 115 AC luxury buses will provide complimentary wireless internet service that is linked to Airtel’s 4G network for a period of 6 months. Citizens with any valid Indian mobile number travelling in any of these 115 Metro Luxury buses can access the Wi-Fi by switching on Wi-Fi in their Wi-Fi enabled device. They can then latch on to the Wi-Fi post authentication of the password and enjoy internet services for up to 20 minutes per day per user. After the free usage, customers can also buy data packs starting Rs.25 giving them 100 MB benefit. This service will increase digital access for the commuters giving them 24/7 access to everything in the data world.
