Executive Interview

Deutsche Telekom is committed to being Net Zero by 2025, and net zero across the entire supply chain by 2040. Its own target is bold and positive, but why will it take almost 20 years to achieve the same throughout the supply chain? Is there sufficient diversity in the telecoms supply chain to enable telcos to select partners and suppliers based on Green credentials and performance, and replace those suppliers who are not moving fast enough on sustainability?

In October 2021, NGMN published its white paper on green future networks and network energy efficiency, which covered a wide range of scenarios and options in a lot of detail. There is obviously so much that could be done, but what is required in practical terms to get operators and vendors to implement these ideas without delay?
