Vodacom introduces ‘Good As New’, to preserve the planet and accelerate digital inclusion

Via Vodacom

Jul 7, 2022

Fancy owning a premium brand without paying a premium price?

Vodacom has introduced ‘Good As New’, a pre-owned device category, offering a selection of certified Apple iPhones at a fraction of the cost of a new model.

‘Good As New’ provides customers with peace of mind, knowing that their valued asset is protected with a standard 12-month warranty, covering all repairs on internal components, software reloads, setting updates, as well as battery. In addition, this category of devices are approved for resale.

“The introduction of ‘Good As New’ forms part of our continued efforts to democratise access and create a digital ecosystem that enables a connected society, which is aligned to our purpose of connecting everyone for a better future. Part of Vodacom’s commitment to preserving the environment includes finding innovative ways to reduce, reuse and recycle devices to lessen the environmental impact that comes with the growth of the business,” says Jorge Mendes, Chief Officer of Vodacom Consumer Business.

Vodacom believes that by putting high-end Apple iPhones into the hands of those who otherwise would not be able to afford them, does not only help repurpose them, but also helps us break down the cost barriers.

“Under our purpose planet pillar, and as part of its waste management strategy, Vodacom has committed to refurbish and recycle 200 000 devices from customers by 2025. Reselling refurbished pre-loved iPhones is another way we aim to drive this commitment, reducing e-waste, one device at a time,” added Mendes.

Davide Tacchino, Managing Executive for Terminals at Vodacom South Africa says “With the launch of the Good As New range, we plan to expand and create additional opportunities to bring in more affordable pre-owned products, at much lower price points. We believe that by making smartphones accessible to many, we will indirectly contribute to the reduction of social inequality”.

The outbreak of the Covid-19 pandemic has also placed a huge financial burden on the country, forcing citizens to find creative ways to navigate life’s challenges, while staying connected.  With remote working and learning, Vodacom has seen a substantial increase in smartphone penetration.

“This is encouraging, as we believe that access to smartphones will create opportunities for consumers to contribute positively to this digital era. “Good As New will also further help support device rotation, maximise the lifespan of devices, accelerate smartphone penetration in the country as well as support our waste management ambition,” concluded Tacchino.

Potential customers can place their orders for Good As New stock by visiting www.vodacom.co.za for a range of Apple iPhone models.
