Charlotte Kan (00:06):
Welcome to Mobile World Congress 2024. Where I'm delighted to be joined by Philippe Rase. Philippe is Global Sales strategic partnership lead at HPE, and Thomas Barnett, head of Partner Cloud Brand Solution Management at Nokia. Thanks for joining us today. Philippe, tell me about the partnership between HPE and Nokia.

Philippe Rase (00:25):
Yes, well, HPE and Nokia have been engaging and collaborating now for more than 30 years. Together, we enable our enterprise and telco customer by packaging the power of our best in breed solutions from both HP and Nokia, from the edge to the core of networks or engagement at combining three key elements, as I said, the best in class power and powerful portfolio of our technologies. And secondly, our go-to market strategies that are based on

Charlotte Kan (01:12):
Thank you. Now, Thomas, what are the biggest challenges faced by telco operators in the ran?

Thomas Barnett (01:17):
There are actually many challenges they are facing, right? They need to evolve their networks from the traditional deployment we currently have in the classical side with 5G to what we are now building together with. HP means a cloud run deployment. And there you have challenges in itself when it comes to scaling mechanisms, power efficiency, and then even boosting the performance in cloud run. These are the challenges we need to manage jointly. Therefore, we have established these collaborative advantages working together for quite some time already in record times. For instance, we have established already the first proof of concept trials around the globe in order to deliver on our promises. But it means scaling, being ready for the next technologies like 5G advanced, six G, having zero touch provisioning networks, programmable networks. So those are all these challenges we need to tackle jointly.

Charlotte Kan (02:13):
Thomas, since you mentioned energy savings, sustainability is a hot topic for many operators and not just for climate reasons, but also because 70% of the power consumed by a typical telco is in the ran. So what are HPE & Nokia doing about this?

Thomas Barnett (02:30):
Maybe if I'm starting, it's important that we are sitting on the latest CPU technology on the latest server technology. It's really starts from the lowest level and then combining it, and we call it our Nokia 5G cloud run based on smart NIC technologies. Combining these new CPUs, these new hardware technology from coming from HP together with our inline acceleration card. It's a very powerful solution in the area of performance, the area of energy efficiency, and also in the area, what I mentioned before, to scale and to scale from a, should I say, very small deployment in an enterprise domain or scaling even out with communication service providers in a wide area network. And then being ready, as I said, for 5G, six G, the technologies of the future.

Philippe Rase (03:20):
So it's a very good example of what I mentioned at the beginning. So we've been collaborating for 30 years now, and this is another example that we announced a year ago at Mobile World Congress, but that we have advanced into customer trials and now commercial readiness as well. So it is been a great journey. Absolutely. And it's only the beginning, right?

Thomas Barnett (03:39):
Just to underline, maybe because last year we had this Eran concept already launched at Nokia together with hp. Now we would like to boost it, we would like to kick it off and making cloud run commercial reality in the course of this year. So let's really a milestone. We are heading together.

Charlotte Kan (03:57):
And finally, one word to describe the relationship between HPE and Nokia

Philippe Rase (04:02):
Collaborative approach.

Thomas Barnett (04:04):
Awesome.

Charlotte Kan (04:06):
Fantastic. Well, thank you very much. Thank you.

Thomas Barnett (04:08):
Thank you you very much. Thank you, Charlotte. Thank you. Bye-Bye. Thanks.
