United Group selects Irdeto to secure content across Southeast Europe

AMSTERDAM — Irdeto, the world leader in digital platform security, today announces it will provide security solutions to protect satellite DTH services across United Group, the leading telecom and media operator in Southeast Europe. The United Group platform combines the leading operators and best content producers in seven countries in Southeast Europe offering unparalleled content to consumers. Irdeto’s Cardless Conditional Access system (Cloaked CA) was selected over other conditional access vendors, ensuring that United Group’s investment in premium content remains safe, enabling United Group to grow their footprint in the region.

Irdeto’s Cloaked CA client was integrated into United Group’s latest satellite HEVC-enabled STB zapper concept, that was also developed with Irdeto for both VIVACOM and TotalTV DTH platforms, both part of United Group. Irdeto Cloaked CA is the most advanced and most widely deployed cardless conditional access system for broadcast operators worldwide. Leveraging Irdeto’s exclusive core security technology (Cloakware® Software Protection) to protect both the content and the software itself, Cloaked CA is recognized by all major Hollywood studios and has been repeatedly certified for premium content protection by independent industry auditors.

With more than 40 million devices successfully installed worldwide, the deployment of the Irdeto CA solution gives United Group the peace of mind that their content is secure, enabling them to provide great service and programming to their customers today and in the future across all Europe.

“As a group operating in several different markets, it is very important for us to choose the right security partner who is able to meet the needs of all our companies. We selected the Irdeto CA system to protect our content across all United Group DTH operations. The new Irdeto protected satellite STB zapper will be used to deliver unified satellite TV services to customers on all United Group DTH markets”, commented Srdjan Djurdjević, CEO of United Cloud, the innovation center of United Group.

“We are excited to be selected by United Group as their long-term security partner across Southeast Europe. Irdeto will help the group deliver improved customer experience through its DTH platforms while ensuring that its content remains secure. This deal further reinforces Irdeto’s commitment to the dynamic and fast-growing media market in Europe, and we look forward to our relationship with United Group to help them meet their business goals of providing world class entertainment and customer experiences”, said Shane McCarthy, COO Video Entertainment, Irdeto.

Recently acquired by United Group, VIVACOM, the largest telecoms operator in terms of total revenues in Bulgaria for seven consecutive years, had also entered a partnership with Irdeto earlier this year. The company has chosen Irdeto to deliver advanced Cardless CA Technology to protect its DTH platform.
