Betting the farm on a ‘white box’ operating system

Steve Garrison, VP of marketing at Pica8, a network operating system company, tells Martyn Warwick that his company is betting the farm that the market will want to buy its hardware and software separately. So Pica8 has developed a hardware-agnostic operating system to work on a range of white box platforms.  The control plane used to be hidden and proprietary, he says, now SPs have demanded it all be open: the result is the biggest change in networking since Ethernet.
