Has the telecoms industry finally come up with a way to unlock the radio access network; seen by many as the last bastion of closed, proprietary solutions? VMware and Deutsche Telekom have been collaborating on an open and intelligent vRAN platform, based on O-RAN standards and using Intel’s FlexRAN architecture, to bring greater agility to radio access networks – for both LTE and 5G.
