OPNFV is a lusty and agile youngster that is evolving rapidly beyond the baseline of communications infrastructure and into the development of real network functions and orchestration. Toby Ford believes that there are now probably too many 'Open' bodies and initiatives out there and that a wave of consolidation is likely once what he calls "gravity towards the inevitable' kicks in and the global industry agrees on the broad shape of the standards-based course to network transformation. However, he stresses that the existence of the current plethora of 'Open' groups is healthy and essential evidence of the innovation that characterises the movement.
