The Telecom Infra Project is forging ahead with its open infrastructure projects, but still sees more work to be done. In particular, whilst Edge Computing is happening, it's not happening as fast as it would like. Intel’s Caroline Chan and TIP board member would like to see the organisation focus more on the applications and services that an open, virtualized, cloud-like network at the edge will bring. Another key area is to enlarge the ecosystem, and to find ways of bringing finance and investment to start-ups and innovators, especially as 5G networks and services take off. TIP needs to do more advocating for 5G and Edge Computing, supporting the move to create smarter and more software-based networks.
