Miguel Marin, Technology Director, Vodafone

Vodafone believes that Open RAN can help it reach locations that it couldn't before with traditional deployments, and that the associated new ecosystem provides many new opportunities. The CSP is currently conducting Open RAN trials in six of its markets, from Europe to Africa, covering not only rural areas but also urban environments. Its Open RAN deployment in Turkey has 25 base stations operating with 2G, 3G and 4G technologies across five frequency bands we real customers. It has serious plans to deploy Open RAN at scale, but needs the continued support of its partners, especially in the move towards making the emerging technology fully interoperable.
