Steve Shah, VP Product Management, Citrix
Citrix is well known as a virtualisation player but also has a major position in networking and is deeply involved in transformation, cloudification and NFV. As Steve Shah points out, where real-life deployments of NFV are concerned CSPs and telcos are discovering that virtual machines can't simply be dropped into a network as an instant replacement for hardware and that the emerging new world order isn't monochrome - it's much more subtle than that. The fact is that operators will run two modes of operations for quite some time to come and that makes imperative the need carefully to pick technology partners that are able to live in two worlds at once and that are willing to embark on a journey of exploration and experimentation lasting for at least five years. That said, CSPs and telcos must also appreciate and acknowledge that NFV isn't purely a problem of technology, it is also one of people and their place in a changing organisational hierarchy.
