Walking the talk: why openness works for carriers

Mar 30, 2015

Saar Gillai, SVP, GM, Network Functions Virtualization, Hewlett-Packard

The key thing about 'open' is that you have to walk the talk, says Saar Gillai.  The carriers are smart and part of the beauty of open source for them is that they can verify what people and companies are doing. Does a company's actual activity in the labs or in the standards groups match up to what they 'say' they're doing. Carriers benefit from 'open' in two ways:  they don't get locked in and, just as important, carriers have noticed that where open standards and open source are used there is more benefit - greater efficiencies, much faster innovation. For more information go to hp.com/go/nfv
