National IoT Roadmap Drives IoT Ecosystem and Creates New Opportunities in Malaysia, Says IDC

KUALA LUMPUR, 16 July 2015 – The Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation (MOSTI) and MIMOS Bhd have launched the National Internet of Things (IoT) Strategic Roadmap to take the lead in accelerating IoT adoption in Malaysia.

A memorandum of understanding (MoU) signed July 9th , at the launch by MIMOS, Cyberview, SAS Institute, and Cyber Security for a Smart City IoT trial shows one of the early IoT implementation initiatives as a result of this collaboration.

“IDC believes with the right implementation, this roadmap will not only drive the formation of an IoT ecosystem and create new opportunities in Malaysia, but will also accelerate the evolution of existing machine-to-machine (M2M) solutions that have been around for over 10 years,” said Alfie Amir, Research Manager, Telecommunications, IDC Malaysia.

This roadmap plays an important role to foster mutual support and coordination among various technological players to leverage existing solutions and develop end-to-end IoT solutions.

“It will also address the challenges that slow down IoT adoption and increase the adoption in both public and private sectors in Malaysia today. Talent development that focuses on development of new graduates to become IoT professionals has also been identified as one of the main focus in the roadmap. This will equip the industry with relevant skillsets mainly in developing and implementing end-to-end IoT solutions,” Amir added.

This initiative brings together more than 40 organizations from different verticals and technological areas to drive IoT adoption in Malaysia.
