Beth Cohen, NFV/SDN Network Product Strategy, Verizon

There is still a huge amount of education needed about the Edge, and with 20 sessions at OpenStack Berlin, there’s plenty of scope for debate. Containers, VMs, serverless, micro-services… all are important and all have a role to play, it all depends on the specific use case. The OpenStack Foundation has identified about 20 distinct use cases to date, which are now being expanded with more detail, looking at what components of OpenStack will be affected. Work items from the Edge Computing Working Group, especially around use cases, are already contributing to other open source projects, including ONAP, proving the viability of the open source model. Beth also speaks about Verizon’s remote compute node deployment and the challenges of deploying, managing and servicing hardware compute nodes in remote locations.

Filmed at OpenStack Summit, Berlin, November 2018
