Telia provides NCC with full-service ICT solution for digital infrastructure across the Nordics

Via Telia Company

Jan 10, 2023

Telia Sweden and its subsidiary Telia Cygate will provide NCC, a leading construction company in the Nordics, with a full-service ICT solution in Sweden, Norway, Finland and Denmark. The solution includes communication services and a data network for critical parts of NCC’s digital infrastructure. It will be delivered as a service, including both operations and continuous development, over a period of three years for communication services and five years for the data network.

Telia Sweden will provide company-wide communication services such as mobile telephony and, optionally, the Touchpoint Plus cloud-based switchboard. Telia Cygate will deliver, maintain and develop both central (WAN) and local (LAN) data networks based on the latest technology standards such as SD-WAN. These are scalable, cost-efficient and flexible solutions that can easily be adapted to connect new systems and digital services throughout the company – including at building sites, where a combination of fibre, 4G and 5G will be used to provide connectivity.

NCC is currently pursuing several different digital initiatives, such as the creation of digital models of entire building projects, the deployment of AI technology for digital safety barriers at construction sites, and the use of drones and robot dogs to collect data and inspect hard-to-reach places. The company is also making it easier for its workers to access information, regardless of where they are, via easy-to-use tools on mobile devices. Collectively, the goal behind all these efforts is to create more efficient and sustainable operations, while improving safety in the work environment.

Kari Kulotie, NCC’s Chief Information Officer, says: “At NCC, we should always be able to have immediate and quick access to our systems and data. For example, Telia will make ordering and delivering networks to our construction sites easier and more predictable than it is today. All the Nordic telecom operators participated in the procurement process, but none could match Telia's combination of price and performance.”

A modern IT environment and a robust and secure digital infrastructure with fast and reliable broadband for the entire company, including building sites, will play an essential role in NCC’s continuing digitalisation.

Tobias Larsson, Head of Telia Sweden’s Enterprise business unit, says: “New technology creates exciting opportunities for the entire construction industry, and it really feels like NCC is part of this movement. The company has clear objectives and is developing new digital solutions that address real challenges in its everyday business. I am both proud and humbled by the trust NCC has placed in Telia to develop and maintain such an important part of its digital infrastructure, and to help build a better-connected business.”
