5G is now a reality and presents mobile operators and CSPs with a unique opportunity to support their enterprise customers. VMware sees three very fundamental foundational trends in the industry today. There is the new software defined and distributed architecture that 5G brings, all the way from the core to the edge. Then there is the separation of the underlying NFVi platform and the VNFs that reside on top. And the third aspect is the convergence of the IT and network clouds to create a single telco cloud. Tech Mahindra adds that enterprises are now looking at how 5G can be used to enhance their cloud-based networks, having first moved applications from ‘on prem’ to the cloud, they are now leveraging VMware technologies to move of these VNFs closer to the edge for 5G to benefit from the lower latencies. VMware technologies such as vSphere, NSX, vSAN, HCX & Velocloud make the mobility and business continuity of VNFs and telco infrastructure a reality allowing a distributed telco cloud to span from the branch to the telco edge to the core datacenters for seamless end to end service connectivity.
