What does it mean to be “Cloud Native” and why is it of critical importance to telcos and service providers? Leading edge service providers are starting to think of themselves as “Cloud companies” rather than telecoms companies, taking cues from cloud companies and looking at cloud based applications. Going forward, Cloud native will become the best way to build applications. All service providers are moving down the path of implementing Kubernetes and containers and much of this work to date has been in the digital front end, creating differentiated customer experience. But whilst we are in the transition phase to cloud native technologies it is important for CSPs to know that “containers” and “cloud native” are not synonymous – cloud native for telcos means leveraging programmable infrastructure and APIs as a core way to interact with infrastructure.
