Fixed and Mobile Superfast Broadband in June: SFR continues to lead fiber(1) coverage with almost 10 million connections and 91% of population covered by 4G – six months ahead of schedule

• 1,886 additional municipalities lit up with 4G and 575 with 4G+ in June
• Marseille and Nice covered by 4G+ up to 300 Mbps

1,886 additonal municipalities receive 4G coverage and 575 get 4G+; Marseille and Nice now enjoy 4G+ up to 300 Mbps

SFR pursued the extension of its 4G/4G+ network in June and remains – according to national spectrum regulator Agence Nationale des Fréquences – France’s operator with the most operational 4G antennas (22,625). 1,886 municipalities – including Montbéliard and Saint-Chamond – were newly covered by SFR’s 4G network during the month and 575 by 4G+, including Antibes, Calais and Valence. To meet customers’ needs and support their practices, SFR invests, innovates and offers them 4G+ up to 300 Mbps, enabling eligible users to enjoy maximum theoretical speeds up to three times higher than with standard 4G. The technology covers more than 200 cities and towns and is now available in Marseille and Nice.

The rapid extension of mobile superfast broadband coverage – with record volumes – is the outcome of a real production factory designed by SFR and backed by unprecedented levels of investment (€2.3 billion in 2016). Keeping up the pace of deployment in 2017, SFR now covers 91% of the population with its 4G service – having reached its full-year target more than six months ahead of schedule. SFR is on track to cover 99% of the population by the end of 2018.

Quality of mobile services: ARCEP confirms SFR’s remarkable progress

Besides extending 4G/4G+ coverage, this massive rollout improves the quality of service delivered by the network, as ARCEP(2) confirmed in its annual survey published in June 2017. This report underscores SFR’s strong momentum in 4G/4G+ and its determination to provide the best quality of service to as many users as possible in France.

Indeed, in terms of the quality of voice and SMS services, SFR is back in top form across the country. In rural areas, which account for more than 50% of the national territory, SFR’s strategy has also proven its worth by enabling the operator to become number 1 for mobile internet speeds and services. SFR was already the leader in terms of 4G coverage of the territory and of low-density areas(2). Now, it is confirming its 4G leadership in most of the country both in terms of coverage and quality of service.

Fiber(1): more than 135,000 new connections eligible in 77 municipalities

In June 2017, SFR continued its FTTx deployment with more than 135,000 new households and business premises eligible for the fiber-based(1) service in 77 municipalities. 30 of these are newly covered, including Estrées-Saint-Denis, Longjumeau and Yutz, while 47 enjoyed an extension of their coverage, such as Achères, Orléans, Saint-Martin-Boulogne and Toulouse. (see lists at the end of this press release) SFR’s FTTx services are now available in almost 1,500 French municipalities.

In terms of fixed-line quality of service, SFR is also achieving record performances. In its survey of fixed-line internet connections in metropolitan France in Q2 2017⁽³⁾ , nPerf ranks SFR first for performance across all technologies, with considerable headway in the average downstream speeds provided to customers. These results, based on 1.8 million user tests, highlight the excellence of SFR’s fixed-line networks.

Already boasting France’s most extensive fiber network with almost 10 million eligible FTTH/FTTB connections, SFR confirmed its leadership and will continue to drive the market through its strong deployment momentum, backed by unprecedented levels of investment. Starting in September, the company will implement its “Fibrer la France” (“Fiber France”) programme, which will deliver FTTx coverage to the whole country by 2015 without any public subsidies.

CEO Michel Paulin said : “In June, thanks to the dedication of our people and the efficiency of our superfast broadband production factory, we covered 91% of the population with 4G, six months ahead of schedule. But we won’t rest on our laurels: we’ll raise this coverage to 99% next year. Regarding fixed-line superfast broadband, we have equally high ambitons, since we’re going ahead with a programme that’s as demanding as it’s pragmatic: to cover the whole country with our fiber network by 2025, without public subsidies. Once again, we’re demonstrating that SFR is a daring pioneer, for the benefit of its customers.”

4G+ and 4G+ up to 300 Mbps are offered at no extra cost to SFR customers with 4G subscriptions and compatible devices. Eligibility for FTTx, mobile coverage and the details of the offerings are available on sfr.fr.
