Despite the hype (and much industry hope) the consumer IoT sector has so far failed to achieve the acceptance and momentum necessary to get the juggernaut rolling. That's because at present customer value is hard for users to discern and they resent and resist paying monthly fees for services (security excepted) that they regard as of minimal or no benefit. Add to that the large numbers of failed IoT services launches seen over the past twelve months and the scope of the problem becomes apparent.
