Neil McRae, Chief Network Architect, BT

Neil McRae tells Guy Daniels that BT is using its broad experience in fibre, copper and IP and re-applying it to build really high-speed capabilities. It’s set on deploying SDN when SDN is ready and it already uses the protocol to control selected platforms but without an SDN controller. And it has high hopes for wringing extra value out of the network edge where it currently deploys what it calls a ‘multi-service edge’. Neil says that concepts like edge computing applied across both mobile and fixed networks look like playing into BT’s vision of both mobile and fixed computing being delivered from the same place and being used in the same way.
