ZTE and China Unicom announce the commercialization of Magic Pole Small Cell solution

30 March 2018, Shenzhen, China - ZTE Corporation (0763.HK / 000063.SZ), a major international provider of telecommunications, enterprise and consumer technology solutions for the Mobile Internet, in association with Shaanxi arm of China Unicom, today announced the commercialization of ZTE Magic Pole Small Cell solution in Xi’an, China, which greatly improves the poor network quality during the rush hour of Chang'an Communication Industrial Park in High-tech Development Zone of the metropolis.

As wireless data usage has skyrocketed in recent years, all major operators are confronted with a new challenge of increasing the density of their network coverage to meet the continually growing demand and improve user experiences.

Considering environmental protection, high entry fees, difficulties in site selection and acquisition, there are many restrictions in deployment, operation and maintenance of macro base stations as well as distributed base stations.

Under these circumstances, ZTE has come up with an innovative solution – the Magic Pole solution. Magic Pole, featuring a clean and sleek appearance, and wireless backhaul design, is capable of avoiding trenching and layout of optical fibers. Integrated with solar street lamp on the pole, Magic pole not only achieves intelligent control of street lamps, but also saves a large amount of electricity costs.

The pole is equipped with outdoor small-pitch full-colour LED display screens, running commercial and public service advertisements in turn, helping Shaanxi Unicom generate advertisement revenue, and thereby fulfilling social responsibilities as well.

This solution uses a street light pole as a carrier, integrating the equipment and advertising board together. Its compact structure makes it well match the surroundings and easy to deploy.

In the future, ZTE will continue its innovations in Small Cell products and solutions, and solidify cooperation with global operators and industry partners to well serve customers worldwide.
