ZTE and China Mobile jointly develop MTN standards for 5G transport at ITU-T
26 July 2019, Shenzhen, China - ZTE today announced that the MTN (Metro Transport Network) standards proposed by ZTE and China Mobile have been approved in the fourth plenary session of the ITU-T (International Telecommunications Union-Telecommunication Standardization Sector) Study Group 15 in Geneva, Switzerland.
It symbolizes the establishment of the 5G transport standard system based on the Slicing Packet Network(SPN) while promoting the maturity of the entire industry chain based on MTN standards, and providing a solid guarantee for 5G transport commercial deployment.
The MTN standards approved include G.mtn-arch “MTN Functional Architecture”, G.mtn-eqpt “MTN Equipment Functional Model”, G.mtn-prot “MTN Linear Protection” and G.mtn-mgmt “MTN Management and Control".
In addition, by virtue of in-depth understanding and researches in 5G transport, China Mobile has become the Editor of G.mtn and G.mtn-mgmt standards, and ZTE has become the Editor of G.mtn-arch standards, showcasing their leading roles and important contributions to the MTN standards for 5G transport. At the ITU-T SG15 plenary session, ZTE has partnered with China Mobile, as well as other vendors and research institutes to submit dozens of proposals for 5G transport network technologies.
The SPN is an innovative technology system for 5G transport proposed by China Mobile. With the advantages of low latency, large bandwidth, ultra-high-precision synchronization as well as flexible management and control, the SPN is the new-generation converged transport network architecture based on slicing Ethernet kernel. Moreover, it is compatible with the Ethernet ecosystem, which features low cost and easy deployment.
ZTE has always been actively devoted to 5G transport technology research, standard promotion and commercial practices. To date, the company has cooperated with global operators, including China Mobile, to complete commercial deployments and trials of more than 30 5G transport networks.
