The Sprint Network is Getting Better Every Day

Independent RootMetrics ® reports demonstrate improvement in key markets

By Dr. John Saw, Chief Network Officer, Sprint

It’s been about three months since RootMetrics released its 2H14 National RootScore® report in which it acknowledged the significant improvements we made in our network performance. Since that time RootMetrics has continued to test new markets, and we’re pleased to report that we’ve been awarded 120 first place (outright or shared) RootScore Awards for overall, reliability, speed, data, call, and/or text performance in 89 markets measured in the first half of 2015. This is significant improvement in one year considering that Sprint received only 13 awards in those same 89 markets in the first half of 2014.

It’s exciting to see that we’re giving our competitors some heat in cities such as Denver, Salt Lake City, San Antonio, St. Louis and Pittsburgh. It’s also encouraging for us to look at the improvements we’ve made in less than six months, moving up from third or last to now having a shared or outright #1 rank in various cities across the country. A few examples of progress include:

The network is getting better every day. This past quarter we furthered the build of our 4G LTE network using our 800MHz and 2.5GHz spectrum, and our 4G LTE service now reaches 280 million people (87% of the U.S. population). We continue to optimize the network and expand LTE on 800MHz and 2.5GHz, and we’re deploying 2X20 carrier aggregation on 2.5GHz for faster data speeds. Looking ahead you’ll see us continue to evolve our network, increasing coverage and capacity by increasing the number of sites across all spectrum bands utilizing various forms of macro sites and small cells.
