Singtel customers to receive an additional boost to their 4G mobile surfing experience

  • Customers to enjoy better indoor mobile reception in more areas
  • Singtel Premium WiFi to be deployed at 123 McDonald’s outlets

Singapore, 28 July, 2015 – Singtel customers will enjoy a boost to their mobile connectivity as the telco embarks on major upgrades to its 4G and WiFi networks. From today, Singtel will be the first telco in Southeast Asia to offer a tri-band 4G network with LTE-900 on a commercial basis. The network upgrade will automatically enable Singtel mobile customers with supporting handsets to enjoy better indoor coverage. Separately, Singtel and McDonald’s have signed an agreement to equip McDonald’s outlets across the island with Singtel Premium WiFi.

“Demand for data is growing exponentially and we are always looking for ways to improve the mobile experience for our customers. Our goal is to deliver the most reliable and seamless connectivity,” says Ms Diana Chen, VP, Mobile Marketing, Singtel. “We have invested heavily over the past year to improve the quality and extent of coverage, particularly indoor coverage. We have also enhanced zones that have been in need of a signal boost.”

Speedier surfing on Singtel’s 4G mobile data highway

Customers using popular handsets launched in the last two years can enjoy this network upgrade from today. By March 2016, it will be available at over 400 sites across the city, allowing customers to surf the data highway much faster, and enjoy better and more consistent download speeds while indoors, even in MRT tunnels.

Customers can expect better mobile coverage, first at Parkway Parade, followed by eight other major shopping malls by October this year. Residents of newer estates such as Punggol and Sengkang will be pleased to know that 4G coverage in their area will be further enhanced by October.

The North-South and East-West underground MRT stations and tunnels will also see improved 4G coverage by the following month. For a list of supported handsets and sites, please visit singtel.com/networkcoverage

Leveraging on this upgrade, Singtel is partnering closely with Samsung to launch a handset which fully supports tri-band 4G+ in the coming months. By being able to utilise all three spectrum bands, the handset will allow maximum mobile surfing speeds of up to 337Mbps.

Free premium WiFi at McDonald’s outlets

Singtel and McDonald’s have signed an agreement to equip 123 McDonald’s restaurants across the island with Singtel Premium WiFi. The progressive rollout starts with Ang Mo Kio Avenue 3, Nex and Causeway Point and is expected to be completed by the first half of 2016. Customers on Combo plans will then be able to tap into the service at over 600 hotspots.

To allow customers to enjoy the free Premium WiFi service, Singtel has extended free unlimited access for another four months to end November. After that, subscribers will enjoy 2GB of WiFi access per month.
