Betty Cockrell, Director of Wi-Fi Product Management, BSG Wireless

BSG Wireless works with both Wi-Fi and Tier 1 carriers and is a wireless roaming hub operation that provides radius interconnect, data clearing, financial settlement and other ancillary services to enable carriers' customers to roam worldwide. In essence the company provides back-office services that allow its customers to negotiate roaming agreements. Once that is done, BSG works behind the scenes for Tier 1 carriers, making the connections and guaranteeing that roaming happens. It's a worldwide operation and, as Betty Cockrell explains, BGG's technology is developing as Wi-Fi continues to evolve. She adds that Wi-Fi is an ideal complementary solution to mobile cellular.

BSG is a member and supporter of the Wireless Broadband Alliance (WBA) and is working with the organisation to ensure the seamless interoperability of roaming between partners. The Passpoint 'standard' is based on 802.11 technology and was developed by the Wi-Fi Alliance via partnerships between mobile device manufacturers, network equipment vendors and operators. Passpoint automates the entire Wi-Fi connectivity process to enable a seamless connection between hotspot networks and mobile devices while also delivering the highest levels of WPA2 security. As Betty Cockrell emphasises, Passpoint enables a much more 'cellular-like' experience when connecting to Wi-Fi networks.
