New, integrated Dell EMC and VMware NFV solution accelerates production deployment for service providers

Via VMware

Sep 12, 2017

SAN FRANCISCO, CA -- (Marketwired) -- 09/12/17 -- MOBILE WORLD CONGRESS AMERICAS

News Summary:

  • Integrated Dell EMC and VMware offering designed to simplify and accelerate NFV deployments
  • Pre-validated solution minimizes adoption time and significantly reduces time and cost to turn up new services
  • First delivery for Dell EMC's new Ready Solutions for Service Providers portfolio comprising Dell EMC infrastructure and ecosystem partners
  • Includes support for more than 40 pre-certified Virtual Network Functions through VMware Ready for NFV program

Full Story:

Dell EMC and VMware(NYSE: VMW) have pre-integrated and pre-validated Dell EMC cloud infrastructure hardware and the OpenStack-ready VMware vCloud NFV™ platform to accelerate time to deployment and help reduce the overall cost of production network functions virtualization (NFV) for communications service providers.

NFV can help communications service providers (CSPs) and mobile operators take advantage of new market opportunities more quickly, flexibly, and efficiently while cutting costs and preparing for the 5G future. The Dell EMC NFV Ready Bundle for VMware will help make it easier for CSPs to build their own operational readiness clusters and design their initial offerings for end user customers. The pre-validated solution minimizes adoption time and significantly reduces time to service.

This solution is built upon the need for virtualized infrastructure while delivering a turnkey offering that, if necessary, can be fully customized to meet specific deployment requirements. It is based on industry-leading hardware and software, and open architectures from Dell EMC and VMware, and will deliver proven, integrated foundation for an NFV environment. With this consistent, uniform building block and a large ecosystem of certified partner technologies, CSPs will be able to deploy a flexible NFV environment that helps keep pace with the evolving communications market.

Dell EMC NFV Ready Bundle forVMware

The Dell EMC NFV Ready Bundle for VMware is an integrated hardware and software solution. It includes open and standards-based Dell EMC cloud infrastructure hardware (compute, networking) powered by Intel® Xeon® and the VMware vCloud NFV platform with VMware vSAN™ or Dell EMC ScaleIO. Customers will have the option of deploying the integrated offering with either VMware Integrated OpenStack-Carrier Edition or VMware vCloud Director® as the virtual infrastructure manager.

vCloud NFV and VMware Ready for NFV Solutions Ecosystem

VMware vCloud NFV is an ETSI-compliant fully integrated, modular and multi-tenancy NFV platform. The vCloud NFV platform combines a highly available, carrier-grade network functions virtualization infrastructure (NFVI) with Day 2 operations management and service assurance capabilities to drive successful NFV deployments and operations. VMware Ready for NFV provides CSPs with the confidence that virtual network functions from leading providers have been certified to seamlessly and effectively deploy, run, and interoperate with VMware vCloud NFV. To date, more than 40 VNF partners have been certified on vCloud NFV.

Dell EMC Ready Solutions Portfolio for Service Providers

The Dell EMC Ready Solutions Portfolio for Service Providers contains a family of pre-validated, pre-tested solutions geared expressly for Service Provider environments and applications. It is designed for accelerating production-ready, revenue-generating environments. The portfolio includes Ready Nodes comprising of individual Dell EMC platforms, which are typically PowerEdge servers based on Intel® Xeon® processors, outfitted with ecosystem partner software and Ready Bundles comprising multiple Dell EMC platforms (typically server, storage and networking elements) combined with ecosystem partner software.

Quotes

"Service providers around the globe believe NFV will deliver benefits in automation, service agility for new revenues, operational efficiency, and capex savings," stated Michael Howard, senior research director and advisor, carrier networks, IHS Markit. "Many carriers are now moving from NFV proof-of-concepts and lab evaluations into field trials and commercial deployments. This trend will only accelerate with new NFV offerings such as the one introduced by Dell EMC and VMware. Operators will want to examine the new pre-validated Dell EMC and VMware integrated bundle, since it can help reduce deployment and operational concerns as well as the risk for NFV, which will help accelerate new service delivery and shorten time to revenue."

"We're working with VMware to help Communications Services Providers manage the realities of Digital Transformation and the rapidly escalating service demands of their customers," said Tom Burns, senior vice president & general manager, Dell EMC Networking, Enterprise Infrastructure & Service Provider Solutions. "Together, we're focused on helping our mutual customers speed up new service delivery and revenue options while reducing cost and operational overhead."

"VMware and Dell EMC continue to drive synergies for our strong global base of mutual customers. For communications service providers, we're teaming to deliver integrated NFV hardware and software solutions, with an ecosystem of pre-certified virtual network functions," said Shekar Ayyar, executive vice president and general manager, Telco Group, VMware. "VMware and Dell EMC together are providing CSPs with the fastest path to OpenStack-ready production NFV solutions to support 5G roll out, accelerate new service delivery and improve overall economics and operations."

"Through more than 60 commercial CSP deployments to date globally, we see that NFV is rapidly becoming the mainstream way of deploying mission critical operator networks," said Hassan Ahmed, Chairman and CEO, Affirmed Networks. "The combined effort of Dell EMC, VMware and their partners to deliver pre-integrated solutions greatly simplifies network transformation and accelerates the pace of modernization and profitability for operators."

"Integrated solutions such as the Dell EMC NFV Ready Bundle for VMware are designed to make it easier for service providers to reduce NFV deployment times and realize the benefits of NFV sooner," said Lynn Comp, General Manager, Network Cloud Industry Enabling, Network Platforms Group, Intel. "Dell EMC and VMware are members of our Intel® Network Builders community, making them key partners in our network transformation journey. We look forward to the inclusion of next generation Intel® Xeon® processors for this solution and further collaboration with Dell EMC and VMware on NFV in the near future."

Availability:
