Lenovo and Wind River accelerate the deployment of NFV solutions

February 16, 2017 -- Lenovo Group announced its selection of Wind River Titanium Server as a carrier-grade platform to demonstrate and validate its Network Function Virtualization (NFV) solutions. Titanium Server is a commercial NFV infrastructure software platform.

By using Titanium Server to validate and pre-integrate hardware and software products, enterprises can introduce service providers and telecom equipment manufacturers (TEMs) to optimized solutions for deployment of NFV infrastructure. Service providers and TEMs can confidently select validated hardware and software products as they know that these products have been pre-verified with the Titanium Server and can be deployed on the network at any time.

Collaborating with Wind River, Lenovo Group joined the Wind River Titanium Cloud ecosystem and has completed the testing and verification process, providing operators with a fully validated, interoperable, and ready-to-use NFVI integrated solution. Technical strength and advanced hardware and software products make Wind River Titanium Cloud and Lenovo System x Server integrated solution one of the most reliable NFVI solutions, thus helping service providers and TEMs to shorten NFV time to market.

As the world’s leading provider of data center infrastructure and the third largest x86 server supplier, Lenovo DCG is committed to delivering advanced data center solutions, products and services to enterprise clients, and for many years its System x servers have obtained the world’s x86 platform server availability and the highest customer satisfaction, and have been well received by enterprise users for high performance and reliability. Lenovo, jointly with Wind River, has optimized and developed its System x servers to meet the strict requirements of operators and help them to accelerate the commercialization of NFV solutions.

“We feel honored and delighted to cooperate with Wind River to help our clients achieve their NFV goals.” said Liu Zheng, vice president of Lenovo Group and general manager of commercial affairs department in China.

“Service providers are looking for validated and ready-to-use end-to-end NFV solutions, for which ecosystem-wide collaboration is far critical,” said Charlie Ashton, senior director of business development for Software-defined Infrastructure at Wind River. “Through the Titanium Cloud program, we are working with Lenovo and other industry leaders to develop optimized and interoperable solutions for service providers and TEMs deploying NFV. Titanium Server provides a solid foundation for carrier-grade NFV infrastructure while leveraging other pre-validated NFV solutions to enable service providers to quickly achieve goals such as lower operating expenses and accelerate the introduction of new high-value services.”

Titanium Server is a carrier-grade NFV infrastructure software solution designed to meet the stringent “always-on” requirement of the telecom industry. With the Titanium Server as the foundation of the NFV infrastructure software, the telecom industry can take full advantage of quick service deployment while ensuring carrier-grade online time and high reliability. Based on open software standards, Titanium Server includes Linux, real-time Kernel-based Virtual Machine (KVM), carrier-grade OpenStack® plug-ins, Data Plane Development Kit (DPDK), and accelerated Virtual Switching. All those profiles have optimized Intel architecture.
