Eastlink launches transformational TV app, ‘Eastlink Stream’ powered by Cisco Infinite Video Platform

Via Cisco Newsroom Press Releases

Sep 8, 2016

AMSTERDAM, IBC 2016, September 8, 2016 – Eastlink announced to its customers throughout Canada today, a new and simple way to watch TV, using the ‘Eastlink Stream’ app that lets users seamlessly stream live TV, prime-time programming and the most popular movies On Demand – across a variety of devices.

Eastlink Stream is powered by the Cisco Infinite Video Platform, a cloud services platform for operators and broadcasters to process, secure, distribute and monetize video on any consumer device.

Eastlink is Canada’s largest family-owned and operated telecommunications company, providing world-class television, video entertainment and communications services to residential, business and public-sector customers across Canada.

Cisco will offer this solution to Eastlink as a service (SaaS) in a secure manner powered from the cloud and supporting video streaming that operates with a simple user interface across devices. With Eastlink Stream, users can now watch their favorite TV shows wherever they choose -- in the home, or on the go -- at no extra cost. Its unique features allow them to:

  • Surf the app with a simple swipe to see what’s on – while still watching their current program
  • Search and discover content by network, show title, genre, etc. – all within the app
  • Search for a show on Live TV or the hundreds of titles in the On Demand library
  • Leave the app and return to the same show they were watching
  • Watch most popular channels Live and On Demand, from anywhere in Canada

Infinite Video Platform uses Cisco VideoGuard Everywhere (VGE) that will protect the video distribution to iOS, Android, PC and Mac devices.

“We asked our customers what they wanted in a TV streaming service, and what consistently came up was the need to get back to simple TV,” said Lee Bragg, CEO, Eastlink. “Our teams worked closely with Cisco to map out a cloud video solution we could launch new services from quickly, powered by an easy-to-use app for customers of all ages, that can take them to what they want to see with a few swipes.”

“With the launch of Eastlink Stream, we are showcasing how Infinite Video Platform can take all the complex parts of managing and delivering video, and make them better, simpler ,faster and secure,” said Conrad Clemson, senior vice president and general manager, Service Provider Video Software, Cisco. “Eastlink customers get to take advantage of one optimized TV platform that syncs with all devices, offering uncompromising security and the entertainment experience they asked for.”
