Next Generation Smart Router Enables Cost-efficient Delivery of Mobile and Fixed Services and Includes Converged IP-Optical Offering

NAPERVILLE, Illinois, 07 June 2016 – Coriant, a global supplier of SDN-enabled end-to-end packet optical networking solutions, today announced it is expanding its portfolio of IP/MPLS routing solutions with the introduction of the Coriant® 8625 Smart Router. Optimized for metro edge and pre-aggregation networks, the 8625 is a highly scalable IP/MPLS routing solution in a compact and power-efficient form factor.

The 8625 solution supports cost-effective delivery of consumer and business services in a broad range of mobile and fixed network applications, including IPTV distribution, mobile gateway, and LTE/LTE-A and 5G-optimized backhaul. The new 8625 routing solution includes a converged IP-Optical offering – the Coriant® 8625-O – that combines Coriant's comprehensive suite of IP/MPLS routing features with pluggable optical layer flexibility and cost efficiencies.

"As end-user mobile and cloud applications drive ever-increasing capacity demands in access and aggregation networks, operators face the ongoing challenge of cost-efficiently scaling network infrastructure without sacrificing service performance," said Mikko Hannula, Director of Product Management, Coriant. "The 8625 is an ideal solution that meets the logical scalability and low latency transport requirements of evolving aggregation applications, while providing the operational efficiencies and service agility of SDN programmability and network slicing to cater to the different requirements of heterogeneous services."

The 8625 is designed to scale up to 1 Tbps of capacity (full duplex), and in its initial release supports capacity of up to 400 Gbps and dense IP/Ethernet service interfaces (1G, 10G). The 8625 delivers cost-efficient scalability of service traffic at medium-sized aggregation and pre-aggregation sites, and supports smooth migration from 10G to 100G transport architectures. The solution includes industry-leading integrated synchronization capabilities optimized for LTE/LTE-A backhaul applications and emerging 5G network architectures, including IEEE1588v2 and Synchronous Ethernet. The 8625 is an optimal solution for mobile and fixed networks that deploy Ethernet technology as the underlying transport media. The solution contains IP routing as well as MPLS and Ethernet switching that provide the flexibility needed to serve evolving network architectures and applications. The 8625 Smart Router supports a mix of IP and Ethernet services, such as IP VPNs, VPLS, and Ethernet pseudowires, with significant buffering capacity for bursty data applications as well as advanced traffic management features with hierarchical QoS support for flexible end-user service definition.

The 8625-O is the latest addition to the Coriant Light IP™ Solution, which leverages technological advances in photonics, silicon, and SDN/NFV to create a network architecture that integrates IP capabilities with the optical layer together with optimal control systems to maximize overall network efficiency while minimizing traffic latency.
