In a new exclusive video series, TelecomTV visits the labs of the world's major network operators to discuss the importance of innovation within the network, and how they partner with companies to test and optimise new products and services.
For the first episode of "Inside the Labs", we visited BT's famous research and development headquarters at Adastral Park in the UK. The facility began life as the Post Office Research Station back in 1968, before being officially opened in 1973 as BT Labs. Now called Adastral Park, the site is host to over 40 companies, employing 4,000 research and development personnel.
Matt Lawson, Director of Applied Innovation, discusses the importance of innovation to the telco, and how they test and demonstrate new services and products at the facility. Rob Mayhew demonstrates several new network-based services, which are currently being trialled, including:

  • Digital signage
  • Mobile application management
  • 4KTV
  • Gesture recognition for clinical environments
  • FaceLook for healthcare professionals
  • Networked 3D printing
  • And innovations in product packaging.
