The aim of the 150 members of the Small Cell Forum is to help operators identify the drivers for small cells and overcome barriers to deployment. Mobile operators are looking to provide more dense coverage, but there is also a need to drive revenues from new services as well as lower the costs of data delivery. Backhaul remains a big challenge, as does site acquisition.
The Forum is currently looking towards NFV within the small cell layer, which will be be published in a future release.
