Irdeto’s new geodiversity functionality enables global expansion of OTT services

Irdeto Rights now enables cost-effective OTT service delivery to multiple regions on a single configuration

IBC, AMSTERDAM – 13 September 2018 – OTT revenues continue to grow rapidly as consumers want a choice of high quality content across a range of devices. This has seen a raft of new OTT services from operators, content owners and other market players, and global growth is now a focus for many as demand increases. However, global expansion of OTT services can be costly. To address these challenges, Irdeto has added geodiversity into its multi-DRM and policy management solution for OTT services. Irdeto Rights, a cloud-based managed service, now allows a single deployment to serve licenses from multiple regions. This enables global OTT services to be offered with faster video start up time and better performance.

In order to expand OTT services across the globe, consumers must have the best viewing experience no matter where they are. Service providers must also mind the cost of expansion to avoid duplicate content storage and packaging infrastructure. Irdeto Rights with geodiversity simplifies management and operation of global OTT services and ensures high availability and minimum latencies to all viewers, even if a region experiences an outage.

“As consumer demand shifts firmly towards OTT, service providers must adapt their model and grow their global OTT offering accordingly,” said Andrew Bunten, SVP of Content Protection at Irdeto . “The key to global success is a consistently great experience, no matter where your customers are, and a cost-effective expansion of services. With the addition of geodiversity to the already comprehensive Irdeto Rights solution we will enable OTT service providers to successfully cross global barriers and continue to be competitive in this challenging market.”

A key solution in the Irdeto 360 Security portfolio, Irdeto Rights is a proven multi-DRM and policy management solution offering an efficient way to deliver and secure content on all consumer devices. It supports all leading commercial DRMs, as well as the common encryption standards of MPEG DASH, and unique security technologies optimized to work at peak levels of demand.
