ZTE cooperates with Bombardier to complete joint test of LTE Multi Service Train communication

Via ZTE Press Center

Aug 4, 2016

4 August 2016, Shenzhen, China – ZTE Corporation (0763.HK / 000063.SZ), a major international provider of telecommunications, enterprise and consumer technology solutions for the Mobile Internet, and global leader in rail technology, Bombardier Transportation, today announced that they have completed a joint test of Bombardier's communications-based train control (CBTC) with ZTE's LTE solution for the railway industry, which signals an important step towards wide commercial use of LTE rail transit systems.

CBTC is an automatic train control system based on wireless communication. The joint test measured LTE systems key performance indicators (KPIs) when carrying diverse services such as CBTC, closed circuit television (CCTV), Passenger Information System (PIS) and Wifi, simulated for trains running at medium and high-speeds. The test result shows that ZTE's LTE solution for railway systems fully meets the industry requirements for the operation of CBTC and new advanced services with wireless communication.

ZTE's solution for LTE for the railway industry has been designed according to the new generation of communication standards and has unique technical features. The LTE technology is a highly reliable solution for high-speed rail operations, because the target areas are covered by two integrated networks. The specially designed redundancy system for core devices greatly reduces the possibility of any single point of failure. Because of this, the system not only guarantees reliability but also offers a better user experience. Compared with traditional narrowband wireless systems, the LTE rail transit system uses a bearer network over LTE, which provides high bandwidth and transmits CBTC, CCTV and PIS services over the same network. This enables users to enjoy abundant services.

At present, ZTE's application of LTE for the railway industry has been commercially applied to Chinese railways, including over 10 lines such as the Metro 4 in Hangzhou, Line 1 in Urumchi, and Line S1 in Wenzhou. As a global leading communication equipment provider, ZTE can offer industrial users the most practicable and reliable end-to-end (E2E) solutions. ZTE has over 30 years of history and over 10 years of extensive experience in the rail transit industry.
