“Smart Transport” in Ufa works using MegaFon’s mobile internet

Via Megafon

2015-10-21

MegaFon is providing mobile internet to the Electric Transport Department of the Ufa City Municipal District (MUET of Ufa). The enterprise uses the operator’s services for its systems to monitor tram and trolleybus journeys. The precise location of the vehicles is also available to passengers via the “Smart Transport” application.

The transport’s coordinates, obtained with the help of GLONASS, are transmitted from the vehicles to the control centres using MegaFon’s mobile data exchange services. The control centres use telephones equipped with MegaFon SIM cards to receive this information. GLONASS sensors are installed on all 287 vehicles belonging to MUET of Ufa.

Apart from the Department’s employees, passengers can also view the location of the trams and trolleybuses connected to the system, either by using the freely available mobile application “Smart Transport” or on the MUET of Ufa website.

“Thanks to the monitoring system we know exactly where the transport is and we can track its movements on-line,” Head of MUET of Ufa’s IT and Communications Department Rashit Sabirzyanov said. “For the system to work accurately and quickly we need a fast mobile Internet. MegaFon’s network services have proved to be highly reliable and fast, which enables the new system to function with precision and speed.”

“The performance of the GLONASS navigation system depends significantly on the operator’s infrastructure. MegaFon possesses a powerful fibre-optic network in Bashkortostan stretching over 4,200 km and a developed 4G wireless network covering over 60% of the population. Together, this ensures high-quality data exchange,” MegaFon’s Director of the Republic of Bashkortostan Department Damir Baigildin pointed out. “Our services are chosen by demanding corporate clients and state companies for which a network’s high-quality statistics are the decisive factor.”
