A recently published study by Analysys Mason, a specialist TMT research and consultancy firm, underscores Deutsche Telekom's leadership role in the machine-to-machine (M2M) market. In their annual ranking, the experts at the British analyst house rated the M2M services of communications service providers (CSPs) in five areas. The result: in the M2M Scorecard 2015, Deutsche Telekom took the top spot in four of the dimensions, "Organizational Structure", "Partnerships", "Technological Enablement" and "Customer Support and Aftersales". It was placed in tier two in the "Scale and Execution" dimension.

Ideally positioned

The experts at Analysys Mason confirm: a major factor in Deutsche Telekom's success is its close collaboration with T-Systems . "Deutsche Telekom’s T-Systems subsidiary also operates in almost every region worldwide. It acts as a systems integrator for implementing Deutsche Telekom’s M2M solutions and will be a driving force behind Deutsche Telekom’s worldwide expansion of M2M services", stated the ranking. The scorecard also recognizes Deutsche Telekom's optimal organizational position. The international M2M business unit, established in 2010, is not the only factor in Deutsche Telekom’s successful M2M business development. The Group also serves its customers' needs with its own international partner network.

Strong focus on the customer

Deutsche Telekom also offers a powerful technology platform for its customers, according to Analysys Mason. With its own Telekom M2M service portal as well as the Cloud of Things platform, the Group makes it easy for business customers to enter the connected economy and helps drive the growth of M2M overall. The scorecard also praised the company's customer-centric approach: with it, Deutsche Telekom aims to identify the benefits of M2M applications based on specific case studies and provide impetus for new business models and concepts. The study's authors are convinced: "Deutsche Telekom demonstrates its ‘enabling capabilities’ early in the customer lifecycle, by working with customers to build use cases on new business models. This ensures that customers are aware of the smart connected devices that are most suitable for their business objectives." Customer support also earned a positive mention: Deutsche Telekom solicits regular feedback with its specialized "TRI*M" software, and uses it in internal benchmarking and the ongoing optimization of its services, processes and offerings.

Core competency: data and information management

The management of information flows and processing of large amounts of data are core competencies of CSPs in the age of M2M and the Internet of Things (IoT). Here, as well, Deutsche Telekom made an excellent impression on the Analysys Mason analysts, who note that its "world-class data management and analytics capabilities underpin Deutsche Telekom’s technology offering." The close collaboration with T-Systems is again a positive factor: "The CSP is well positioned for this business because it can capitalize on T-Systems ’ strong cloud offerings and its high security and data protection capabilities", says Analysys Mason in conclusion.
