Why Mobile Edge Computing? Dirk explains that what's now the subject of an an ETSI ISG started life in Nokia Networks as a way to create more value for LTE networks. Much of the innovation in network-based services we see today comes from outside the telco environment, he explains. MEC is essentially a familiar compute solution designed to sit just in front of the RAN, on top of which developers can create compelling new applications such as 'real-time guidance'.
