MEC really came out of conversation on how to deal with extra network traffic, Jon tells Martyn Warwick. That had a resemblance to problems Intel was helping to solve for the data centre business about 10 years ago. Jon believes MEC's server-based architecture can solve the mobile network performance problem through predictable placement of content. The other big application area will be location based services.
