Turbines on the Rise: Introducing “AT&T Windstrong”

Hundreds of wind turbines are on the rise at 4 wind energy centers now under construction as part of AT&T’s commitment to renewable energy. Standing nearly 500 feet tall, these turbines will help deliver up to 820 megawatts (MW) of clean, wind energy to the American power grid. The projects will be among the first to go online as part of AT&T’s renewable energy program – and our employees have voted to call them: AT&T Windstrong.
After a recent visit to one of the AT&T-backed wind farms under development, I agree with my colleagues that AT&T Windstrong is a fitting name for the collection of turbines that will help reduce greenhouse gas emissions equivalent to taking more than 530,000 cars off the road a year..1 And, as they are going up, our AT&T-backed projects are creating as many as 1,000 construction jobs and dozens of full-time jobs in local communities.2
AT&T employees are passionate about serving our communities and caring for our world. From the beginning, our employees have shown great enthusiasm and support for our renewable energy investments. So, we invited them to help us name the first AT&T-backed wind projects.
Thousands of AT&T team members cast their votes and selected the name: AT&T Windstrong.
We’re proud of our investments that are helping to enable a clean energy future. As one of the largest corporate purchasers of renewable energy in the country,3 these investments are helping to scale an energy solution that’s critical to the transition to a low-carbon economy. And, we’re very pleased to give them a name our employees have selected.
With the backing of our employees, and in collaboration with partners such as NextEra Energy Resources4, we’ve made a long-term commitment to renewable energy. It’s one way we’re working to care for the planet – and it’s a key part of our 10x Carbon Reduction Goal to enable carbon savings 10x the footprint of our operations by 2025.
