Summary

Edge computing doesn’t need 5G, but many would argue that the full potential of 5G cannot be achieved without edge assets. So just how important is edge computing to the 5G business case? And can Edge resources play multiple roles in 5G strategies – in other words, in a 5G world, is Edge as important to a telco’s operations as it is to delivering customer services?

The panel also discusses the radio access network and the extent to which virtualized RAN relies on a telco’s own Edge investments. They also consider if a single, distributed telco cloud platform can deliver everything a telco needs, including - but not limited to - 5G, and whether the telco Edge must also be a ‘cloud native’ telco Edge.
