Panel Discussion

Network operators are convinced they need edge computing capabilities to fulfil their service strategies, but to what extent will they need to invest in their own edge IT infrastructure? And if they do, what, where and why? Should telcos go it alone, or should they partner? And when we talk about partnering with infrastructure, what’s more important - is it the physical assets or platforms?
The panel also discusses telcos’ own existing assets and whether existing resources be used or upgraded, or if new infrastructure is required. Are there specific ‘carrier class’ edge computing systems that operators need to consider or is off-the-shelf compute and storage suitable? And just how much R&D should a telco be investing in the Edge?
