Panel Discussion

The motion was on knife edge but  CARRIED NARROWLY at the event, but do you agree? Cast your vote above in our audience poll.

The convergence of compute, storage and connect at various points in the ICT chain represents a new battleground for all-comes not just the communications providers.

Andy MacLeod, Board Advisor and Non-Executive Director, Telecoms and Information Systems – the Edge has hijacked much of the work from MEC – latency, efficiency and integration are the main drivers making better and more focused use of the resources around the RAN and into the network.
Nitu Kaushal, Head of Industry Digital Services, Vodafone IBM Global Innovation, Office, Vodafone Business – looking at the opportunity from the business customer point of view opens up many use cases in many industries from the Edge.
John Vickery, Principal Technology Partner, Enterprise CTIO, BT – listening to customers shows that there is pent up demand for services to wrap around the ways businesses work rather than being constrained by technology.
Azhar Sayeed, Chief Architect, Red Hat – Local breakout at the edge is what makes the technology work. Disaggregation of the data plane at the edge will allow breakout. This is the antithesis of the walled garden approach of former generations.
