The Edge Computing project group of the OpenStack Foundation is defining minimum viable product (MVP) architectures for networks based on current OpenStack capabilities, rather than waiting for OpenStack to develop and evolve to meet possible new edge requirements. The group has already architected two different MVP models, which it believes will cover all the currently identified edge use cases. However, the edge compute sector is a highly dynamic area and is evolving all the time. Nevertheless, the group believes OpenStack will be essential to the thousands of future edge computing locations, which will be running several instances of OpenStack clouds.
