Connectivity 4.0: the Pure Connectivity Play (Full session)

Chris Lewis
By Chris Lewis

Jul 15, 2019

Connectivity remains the USP and core strength for service providers, so instead of creating new digital businesses, why not leverage this to provide new solutions for other industries?
What if the answer isn’t to be found in a CSP creating a new digital business, but instead relies on using the network to provide the next generation of connectivity that will enable and support enterprises and other vertical sectors? Can CSPs enjoy a brighter future with a pure connectivity play? After all, it’s long been the core strength of service providers. Connectivity 1.0 dates back to the telegram and telegraph, with store-and-forward messaging. Connectivity 2.0 saw the emergence of simultaneous two-way voice telephony. Connectivity 3.0 brought the Internet and data communications. Connectivity 4.0 promises to create a new digital economy by enabling the Industry IoT, with help of course from 5G. How viable is a horizontal-based strategy that leverages a CSP’s network assets and connectivity to provide enhanced services to a wide range of businesses, from SMEs to major verticals?
