Strategy Analytics’ UX Trends for 2020: Advancements in AI, 5G & Android Automotive OS, Set to Bring Digital Transformation

Via Strategy Analytics Press Releases

Dec 11, 2019

December 11, 2019

BOSTON--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- 2020 is set to bring a digital transformation with a new set of technologies. The latest insight from the UX (User Experience) Innovation research team at Strategy Analytics has identified the top UX trends to watch in 2020. Artificial intelligence (AI) will start to deliver tangible user benefits in consumer tech; new distinctive use cases will emerge to take full advantage of the ultra-high capacity 5G networks; foldable devices will spur a period of form-factor innovation; voice assistants will make progress towards consolidation; and Android Automotive OS will have a huge impact on the infotainment user experience.

Highlighting the key trends to watch in 2020, report snapshots include:

  • In AI, more meaningful use cases will be introduced based on natural language processing, machine learning and empathetic technology, among other areas.
  • As 5G is rolled out in more markets, new distinctive use cases will emerge sparking a new wave of UX innovation.
  • Foldable devices will provide opportunities for UX designers to deliver new experiences and value propositions.
  • Voice assistant platforms will finally address the user experience pain points associated with fragmentation.
  • Android Automotive OS has the potential to eliminate smartphone mirroring, providing access to a wide variety of relevant apps while in the car.

Chris Schreiner Director, Syndicated Research, UXIP and report author commented, “In 2019, consumer expectations for consistent improvement were not being met and new and useful use cases have been slow to emerge. AI still battles with edge cases eroding consumer confidence; consumers are struggling to see any advantage of 5G except for faster speeds; and consumers will not broadly adopt foldable displays until they significantly come down in price.”

Continued Schreiner , “But progress is being made and this will be seen in 2020: voice assistants stand to improve thanks to advancements in AI; foldable displays open up new possibilities for designers outside of the smartphone space; and Android Automotive OS has the potential to revolutionize the in-car infotainment industry.”

Added Kevin Nolan, VP, UXIP, “Consumers want greater accuracy, but they also want deeper functionality and integration across devices, from their smart speaker to their phone and into the car. While this has been challenging to implement, we are identifying strategies OEMs can take to succeed.”
