Highlights:

Snapdragon® 8 Gen 1 powers Samsung’s newest flagship device lineup, Galaxy S22 series in select regions and Galaxy Tab S8 series globally, to enable cutting-edge 5G, AI, gaming, camera, and Wi-Fi and Bluetooth® technologies.

Qualcomm® FastConnect™ 6900 Mobile Connectivity System is featured in the Samsung Galaxy S22 and Galaxy Tab S8 series, enabling advanced Wi-Fi for fast, reliable, and responsive connectivity, as well as the latest Bluetooth 5.2 standard for high-quality wireless audio.

Qualcomm® 3D Sonic Sensor Gen 2 is built into the Galaxy S22 series’ displays, enabling fast and reliable user authentication.

SAN DIEGO: Qualcomm Technologies, Inc. announced that its flagship Snapdragon® 8 Gen 1 Mobile Platform is powering Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd.’s latest and most cutting-edge smartphones, the Galaxy S22 series in select regions and Galaxy Tab S8 series globally. The new Snapdragon 8 leads the way into a new era of premium mobile technology equipped with cutting-edge 5G, AI, gaming, camera, and Wi-Fi and Bluetooth® technologies.

“We’re proud to continue our longstanding collaboration with Samsung to deliver the ground breaking mobile experiences consumers deserve. Our latest flagship platform, Snapdragon 8 Gen 1, helps make that possible,” said Christopher Patrick, senior vice president and general manager, mobile handset, Qualcomm Technologies, Inc. “Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 is paving the way for a new era of premium mobile technology. Devices like the Galaxy S22 series and Galaxy Tab S8 series are prime examples.”

“Samsung is committed to delivering the most innovative mobile experience to consumers, and the new flagship Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 Mobile Platform, which is powering the latest Galaxy S22 series and Tab S8 series, sets the bar for premium mobile experiences,” said Inkang Song, corporate vice president and head of technology strategy group, Samsung Electronics. “Qualcomm Technologies’ extensive technology roadmap and differentiation sets them apart and makes them the partner of choice to deliver the latest cutting-edge mobile experiences.”

“Qualcomm Technologies is very proud to bring our premium FastConnect system for the first time to Samsung’s flagship Galaxy S platform[1],” said Dino Bekis, vice president and general manager, mobile and compute connectivity, Qualcomm Technologies, Inc. “Through our strong collaboration, we were able to combine the leadership of the FastConnect 6900 features and performance with Samsung’s platform innovations to deliver truly immersive connected experiences.”

The Galaxy S22 series features advanced Snapdragon connectivity technologies across 5G, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth for fast and reliable connected experiences. The Galaxy S22 series features the 4th gen Snapdragon X65 5G Modem-RF System, providing unmatched speeds and supporting more networks, frequencies, and bandwidths globally. Snapdragon 8 is the most advanced 5G mobile platform and the world’s first 5G modem-RF solution to reach 10 Gbps download speeds and up to 3.5 Gbps upload speeds. New with this generation, Galaxy S22 takes advantage of the Qualcomm® FastConnect™ 6900 Mobile Connectivity System supporting powerful Wi-Fi speeds and sustained low latency performance through leading feature support like Qualcomm® 4-Stream Dual Band Simultaneous. Further, FastConnect 6900 delivers support for the latest Bluetooth 5.2 standard and optimizations for audio robustness, quality, latency and power efficiency.

The Galaxy S22 series and Galaxy Tab S8 series take advantage of Snapdragon 8’s major architectural advances.[2] The new Qualcomm® Adreno™ GPU provides a 30% boost in graphics rendering capabilities and 25% improvement in power savings compared to the previous generation. The 7th Gen Qualcomm® AI Engine is equipped with the ultra-high performance and efficient Qualcomm® Hexagon™ processor, featuring a 2x faster tensor accelerator and 2x larger shared memory than its predecessor to enable a whole host of new use cases. The Qualcomm® Kryo™ CPU is up to 20% faster performance and 30% more power efficient compared to its predecessor. With Snapdragon Sight™ technology, Samsung’s new Galaxy device lineup takes smartphone photography beyond pro. These new devices unlock new camera experiences thanks to Snapdragon 8’s triple ISPs, delivering over a billion shades of color. The devices also take advantage of a dedicated Trust Management Engine in Snapdragon 8 to achieve heightened security for apps and services.

The Galaxy S22 series also features an in-display Qualcomm® 3D Sonic Sensor Gen 2. This 8x8 sensor is engineered to allow the device to detect a larger fingerprint image than its predecessor, allowing for an improved user experience. Unlike alternative authentication solutions, Qualcomm 3D Sonic Sensor uses acoustic-based technology that reflects the unique features of a user’s individual fingerprint.
