Telia has launched Telia Critical IoT Connectivity, the first commercially available service in Sweden to use 5G standalone (SA) technology. The new offering, which is available starting today, has been developed to deliver the secure, stable and predictable connectivity required by highly demanding Internet of Things (IoT) use-cases in sectors such as emergency services, energy, transport, industry and healthcare.

Building Telia Critical IoT Connectivity on 5G SA, which is already deployed throughout Telia’s Swedish 5G footprint, means the service can make use of advanced capabilities such as network slicing, ultra-low latency and increased security. 5G SA is optimized for video and data, and enables smarter network traffic management, ensuring reliable performance for key applications even at peak times.

Fredrik Stenberg, Head of B2B, Telia Sweden: “Through Telia Critical IoT Connectivity, we’re creating the conditions for companies and organizations to use new digital solutions in the most critical parts of their operations, where the demands are greatest, without compromising security or control.”

The new service has been developed with experience and insights gained from Telia’s NorthStar 5G innovation program. Launched in 2023, NorthStar connects a purpose-built 5G innovation network with Telia’s public 5G network. The purpose is to give partners, which include the Swedish Armed Forces and mining company Boliden, early access to advanced 5G capabilities.

Telia’s Swedish 5G network, which covers 99.9% of the population and more than 94% of the country’s land area, was recently named Sweden’s best mobile network for the sixth year in a row according to umlaut 2025. With 5G SA, the radio access network connects directly to a 5G core without relying on 4G technology.
