There are lots of aspects to 5G, Marcus tells Guy Daniels, but first it’s just an evolution of the current network towards more bandwidth. Swisscom plans to deploy 5G towards the end of this year and, as a smaller operator, it relies on its preferred partners to help it with the technology. In terms of use cases it’s very much customer-led. “We use a lot of open source software, but mostly in the fixed network,” he says. “So NFV is an important piece of the puzzle and we want to see it progress with more cloudification.”
