  • Dirk Trossen, Senior Principal Scientist, InterDigital Europe
  • 5G is still a young technology with more functionality to come
  • Collaboration with partners and standard groups essential

InterDigital showcased a number of innovations at MWC, including 5G, IoT and video. The company has license agreement with a number of larges OEMs and manufacturers, such as Huawei, Apple, LG and Sony, who utilise its R&D capability. As Dirk says, sourcing of technologies is as old as the industry itself, as not everything can be developed in-house. Whilst 5G is the talk of the show, the first technical specification was only released a year ago. The continuous development cycle of cellular means that R&D companies need to keep innovating and looking ahead, even to life after 5G.
