Ericsson shows 5G USA Smart Factory to ambassadors and US Department of State

  • Ericsson’s President and CEO, Börje Ekholm, and Yossi Cohen, Head of Ericsson Americas, hosted two delegations on consecutive days as they toured the highly automated, 300,000 sq foot smart factory in Lewisville, which manufactures the 5G radios and basebands that power networks across the US.

​​​​​​​The site is Ericsson’s first smart factory in the U.S. and a key hub in the company’s next-generation, end-to-end connected supply chain. Ericsson will manufacture next-generation 6G network equipment at the factory.

Ericsson recently announced the world’s first live 6G trial at its office in Plano, Texas, powering AI robotics and real-time video streaming. The Company has also recently demonstrated breakthrough drone detection proof of conceptin Texas, using ISAC (Integrated Sensing and Communication) technology that creates opportunities for commercial, public safety and defense use cases across the industry.

Börje Ekholm, President and CEO of Ericsson, says: “It is an honor to host the U.S. Under Secretary of State and the ambassadors at our USA 5G Smart Factory. This facility is where networks for today and the future are built for the US – in the US. With 5G equipment made in Texas and deployed nationwide, we are helping secure U.S. technology leadership while strengthening critical infrastructure resilience.”

The visit highlighted the deep industrial ties between Sweden and the United States, with innovation and manufacturing jointly advancing secure, state‑of‑the‑art 5G networks.

Yossi Cohen, Head of Ericsson Americas, says: “We are proud to welcome this visit to our 5G Smart Factory. With more than 550 employees, the facility is the largest manufacturer of 5G infrastructure in the United States and has been supporting domestic production for over five years. Facilities like this help build the resilient, secure, and innovative infrastructure that the digital economy depends on. .”

The delegation included Under Secretary of State Jacob Helberg, Christine Toretti, U.S. Ambassador to Sweden and Urban Ahlin, Ambassador of Sweden to the U.S. among others.
